Caroling for a Cause

We raised $42 each and a round of cookies!!! Bree and I and three others went out to downtown historic Oxnard and went caroling door to door. I have to admit, I was a bit nervous at first - about asking for money - not so much about singing. But as it turned out, everyone was very open and generous. (Well, that and Bree was our Leukemia and Lymphoma spokeswoman, I was merely the guide)

We met all kinds while caroling. One very sweet lady invited us in and showed us her Christmas present - a cute little light one of her daughters sent her. We really made her day. On the opposite end of the spectrum, we later caroled at a halfway house where we met the wolfman. We also had a couple of people sing along with us and really get into it. Families rushed off to get the kids so they could experience the carolers and great amounts of holiday cheer we were spreading.

It was so much fun. We only wish that there were more caroling holidays before next Christmas.

I LOVE CAROLING!
Though, I must say it was difficult to rustle up people for the caroling experience. I don't think it was just the fact that it was just short notice. I found that many people had a really negative view about caroling as they were too "shy about singing in front of people." I respect shy people, I used to be one of them. However, caroling is not like actually singing in front of people. Christmas carols are very forgiving for any kind of voice, and as I think we discovered if you have at least 5 people, the blending of voices helps everyone sound good. I am very passionate about this subject. I feel that we are not caroling enough as a society and next year, I want all of you out there. Carol for charity, carol for fun, carol just to spread joy to others. I emplor you. I

wow Bree, you feel so strongly about caroling, you actually ran out of space to talk about it. You're a nut. You may consider your own blog to give yourself enough room to talk of all these great ideas running through your head.
